Nephew
Johnny - average guy learning about resource recycling

Buddy,
the Conservation Canine - on the lookout for resource abusers and polluters

Recycling
is important to extend landfill space, conserve limited natural resources
and to protect the environment. Each city needs to comply with a state
law which requires it to reduce the amount of trash sent to landfills
by 50%

Storm
drains are designed to carry water solely and are not to be used as dumping
sites for debris and hazardous waste. Water flows through a series of
concrete channels directly to the ocean without being treated. Oceans
will be less contaminated and beaches cleaner if we prevent pollutants
from entering storm drains.
Motor
oil is a hazardous waste and should be disposed properly at a facility
which safely collects all toxic household waste products. Dumping hazardous
waste into storm drains or onto the ground, or mixing it in with the regular
garbage is illegal and punishable by a monetary fine.

Throwing
away toxic chemicals with the regular garbage or placing them in storm
drains harms the environment, pollutes the water supply, and violates
the law. Call your city or county refuse collector to learn how to properly
dispose of all hazardous waste products.

Buddy
rewards Johnny with affection for doing his part to recycle and protect
the environment.
Litter
creates havoc with the environment. Keep your community clean by disposing
of trash responsibly.
